At this year’s SIMEI exhibition, taking place in November in Milan, Parker domnick hunter Process Filtration will be launching a number of new and innovative microfiltration systems for wine and beverage production and bottling. On show for the first time will be a unique tank to tank system for bulk wine pre-treatment, which reduces waste and improves quality, plus sophisticated filtration units for consistent clarification and specialisation, and a new cartridge filter for tanker off-loading that combines excellent retention rates with easy regeneration to provide a cost effective alternative to traditional sheet filters.

Parker Hannifin is the world’s leading manufacturer of motion and control technologies, and its domnick hunter division produces a comprehensive range of filtration, separation and purification products and systems.

The latest of these is a unique cellar management system that provides automatic tank to tank microfiltration for the bulk pretreatment of wine, ready for final filtration prior to packaging. Developed by Win&Tech, Parker’s distribution partner in Italy, this self contained, skid-mounted system uses proven normal flow microfiltration cartridges, combined with automated cleaning and regeneration to provide extended filter service life.

The new system minimises wine losses and changes in organoleptic properties and eliminates the release of particles and extractable content into the wine. Unlike traditional diatomaceous earth filtration units there are no problems of hazardous waste disposal, while compared with technologies such as tangential flow filtration the new system can reduce energy costs and water consumption, with greater versatility and lower capital expenditure.

Parker domnick hunter Process Filtration will also be showing pre-production versions of an innovative new filter for tanker off-loading and tank to tank transfer, for protecting wine from microbial spoilage during intermediate storage. The latest PREPOR NG filter provides excellent microbial retention, with fully validated yeast removal, and the ability to withstand blockage even when filtering high particulate wines. It is also easy and quick to regenerate, with a tough construction that withstands both backwashing and chemical regeneration.

To help customers further improve quality while controlling costs, Parker domnick hunter Process Filtration will also be showing its latest range of PEPLYN, PROPLEAT and PREPOR clarification filters, and BEVPOR stabilisation filters. In addition, the company will demonstrate its portable BEVCHECK PLUS unit for testing the condition of membrane filter cartridges. This unit automatically controls each complete test, from application of pressure, through stabilization and pressure decay measurement, to final release of pressure, providing quick and accurate output via an LCD and built in printer, and storage capacity for test programs and reports.

Also on show will be nitrogen generation and Carbon dioxide polishing systems, plus a range of filters for compressed and sterile air, steam and gasses. The latter includes the High Flow BIO-X filters, with advanced PTFE impregnated microfibers and robust stainless steel cores, that offer retention down to 0.01 micron, with flow rates up to three times greater than membrane filters; this can reduce both cartridge usage and installed footprint.

The latest range of process filtration products from Parker are supported globally by an integrated network of manufacturing, sales and customer support centres, and by specialised local distributors and system builders providing a fast and efficient service to customers throughout the food and beverage sectors. In Italy, Parker’s distribution partner is Win&Tech, based in San Pietro in Cariano.
