ERIKS, Europe's largest industrial distributor, has successfully received accreditation in the UK from SAFEcontractor, a programme which recognises high standards of health and safety practice amongst contractors. This recognition will further enhance ERIKS’ reputation; not only as an organisation meeting the needs of customers in running their maintenance, repair and operations safely and efficiently, but also the value placed on every one of its employees without compromising their safety.
ERIKS UK places great emphasis on health and safety as a value to its business and strives to achieve zero accidents in the workplace, as highlighted by the company’s ongoing Zero Harm campaign. This campaign aims to raise awareness of the importance of safe practice within the organisation, particularly for ERIKS’ on-site engineers based at large customer sites in the water, process or manufacturing sectors. The company's application for SAFEcontractor accreditation further supports this value and sends a strong message both to its employees and customers.
To achieve the coveted SAFEcontractor accreditation, ERIKS underwent a vetting process, which examined health and safety procedures and the company’s track record for safe practice. ERIKS who successfully met the high standards required and are now included on a database accessible only to registered users via website: www.safecontractor.com.
Brian O'Leary, Management Services Director, commented, “The target for ERIKS is to achieve zero harm, zero injuries, zero compromise and zero accidents; so that when employees go home at night after a days work, they do so in good health and free from injury.”
John Kinge, Head of Risk at SAFEcontractor, said, “Major organisations can no longer run the risk of employing contractors who are unable to prove that they have sound health and safety policies”. He further commented, “More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that ERIKS had done. The company's high standard has set an example, which hopefully will be followed by other organisations in the sector.”
SAFEcontractor, in common with ERIKS, covers a wide range of industry sectors, each with their own individual health and safety requirements. To help meet these legal obligations, employer-organisations can signed up to the scheme and access the database to vet contractor safety credentials prior to any agreement being formalised. Over 150 major nationwide employer-organisations have signed an agreement to only use SAFEcontractor accredited companies.
With ERIKS UK operating from over 160 centres and taking responsibility for the management and delivery of all MRO aspects (including large plant for 10 of the UK’s top 100 manufacturing companies), SAFEcontractor accreditation will ensure all its activities such as: keeping stores, running production equipment and buildings, and predictive maintenance measures, are run smoothly, efficiently and safely.
