Parker Hannifin, the global leader in motion and control technologies, has launched a more powerful version of its Oilcheck portable oil indicator. This small, lightweight, battery-powered, hand-held instrument is quick and simple to use and works by measuring the dielectric constant of oil samples.
It now features a memory capacity that will store the current calibration data result even when switched off. This will allow maintenance engineers to check oil samples and compare data against a recognised stored reference sample without the need to repeat calibration each time, resulting in considerable time saved conducting tests.
Contamination in oils is generally caused by oxidation and the build up of acids, both of which can form as a result of the normal operation of machinery, or from materials such as dirt, soot, fuel, water, anti-freeze and metal particles that occur as a result of excessive wear or failure of internal mechanical components or gaskets. In each case, contamination can reduce machinery efficiency, leading to an increase in operating and maintenance costs and can ultimately cause failure. Oilcheck is a low cost monitoring instrument that helps maintenance engineers identify oil contamination changes before problems occur and, therefore, can assist in extending machinery operating life and reducing the cost of ownership.
Oilcheck is a comparative instrument, which detects and measures the dielectric constant in a used oil sample which is then compared against results taken from a clean, unused (calibrated) sample of the same type and brand.
The instrument provides accurate and repeatable results. The readings are displayed both as a numeric value to show positive or negative increases in dielectric and on a simple-to-read, circular green/amber/red efficiency scale. When used together, these displays allow a gradual change in oil quality to be recorded and, in samples where contamination has reached a critical level, for a problem to be identified immediately. The improved memory now allows calibrated oil data results to be stored until such time it is required when re-testing is carried out. This will avoid the need to re-calibrate for each test sample and therefore, dramatically increase time savings.
In addition, Oilcheck is now available with an optional rubber ‘boot’ for added protection against mechanical damage and does help prolong the life of this handy little instrument.
Oilcheck is ideal for use by industrial and commercial engineers and mechanics involved in the servicing and maintenance of a wide range of industrial machinery, highway vehicles, construction plant and mobile equipment.
